As Neftali Feliz blew another save for me and the Yankees finally kicked their offense into gear, Colorado?s tandem of former Yank Jason Giambi and Jhoulys Chacin dominated the Phillies. Despite a rainy evening,?Chacin (5-2) allowed one run and four hits, striking out a season-high nine in seven innings to lead the Rockies to a 7-1 win Thursday. He provided the pitching and Giambi, literally, took care of the rest.?Giambi became just the fourth player in Major League history to hit at least three homers in one game after the age of 40, putting his name next to Babe Ruth, Stan Musial and Reggie Jackson. Giambi entered the game with 416 homeruns and had never hit three bombs in a single game.
Giambi, filling in for a sore Todd Helton, hit a three-run shot into the middle deck in right field in his first at-bat, and followed that with a two-run blast to right in the third. The first two homers came against starter Kyle Kendrick, filling in after Joe Blanton was scratched right before the game with right elbow soreness. The final round tripper came off Danys Baez in the fifth and Giambi struck out in his fourth and fifth at bats.
Giambi snapped an 0-for-18 skid with the first of his three homers and hasn?t had a multiple home run game since a game against the Blue Jays when he was an Oakland Athletic. Jason is still not much of a fantasy threat going foward, but is a huge veteran prescence in the Colorado dugout and, as shown, can still contribute when called upon. If anyone forgot, Giambi exacted revenge from his Yankee days last year, demolishing a pitch from Jonathan ?tiny mouth? Papelbon and sending the Sox home with their respective tails between their legs. Check out this link to one my favorite videos of all time. Chew on that Paps.
