In my research, into my family tree, I have often turned to Old Trade Directories as a resource. For example, in Plymouth, Devon, I have located one of my more enterprising ancestors in the 1861 census as being a Victualler and Brass founder and giving employment to one woman, six men and a number of boys. With this discovered I then went to the Historical Directories website, a project run by the University of Leicester.
